Tough Guy competitor speaks
That photo is of Georgie and her brothers competing in Tough Guy 2013 over the weekend. She spotted herself in our photo gallery and then over email, shared her experience of the race.
It was my first time and despite the fact I swim every day in the Cornish sea, nothing could prepare me for the icy cold water at Tough guy. I'm raising money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust this year by climbing Kilimanjaro and my brother suggested I do ToughGuy as part of my endurance training. Little did I know the horrors that awaited! Cornwall is hilly so running up tight, muddy lanes in wet clothes is no problem for me. Tough guy takes you to a whole new level of mental agility and physical pain!
What I loved most about Tough guy was the community spirit. It was we the competitors against the course not us against each other. I got pulled out of every ditch and tried to help others where I could. Where else does that happen in a race? It was an amazing day and I will be back in 2014 for sure. I got 99% of the way round before dropping to my knees and begging for mercy. I so wanted to finish but hypothermia was beginning to take it's grip and well....there's always next year!
