The 2012 Boston Marathon, the 116th running of the world-famous race, is under way, with the elite women's group leaving the start line in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, at 9:32 a.m. ET. Temperatures will be hot today -- maybe you heard? -- and indeed, it was 71 degrees when the women got going. Highs are expected to reach into the upper 80s later in the afternoon.
The six mobility impaired athletes got things started at 9 a.m., followed by the wheelchair division and then the handcycle group. The elite men, and wave one, are set for a 10 a.m. start.
