Sony recently unveiled plans to produce a chip dubbed "Core" that will become the heart of the firm's efforts to inject itself into the fitness-tracking smartwear market at the CES consumer electronics tradeshow in Las Vegas. The Verge reports the wearable gadget, reportedly the smallest ever produced by the firm, will include "the typicall fitness-tracking metrics" but also include a wider suite of capabilities such as tracking photos, life events and journaling.

Core will rely on an app, Lifelog, to access the array of information it records. Both Core and the app are expected to be rolled out in Spring of this year. Sony says it will revela more details about both at the Mobile World Congress event in February.
