The women's race at Ironman 70.3 Texas, the U.S. Pro Championship, was won by American Kelly Williamson (Austin, TX). Though it really wasn't much of a race -- Williamson absolutely dominated the run and finished more than five minutes before the runner-up, Yvonne van Vlerken (Netherlands). Amy Marsh continued the great day for athletes from Austin with a third-place finish (4:20:16).
Williamson was about 90 seconds behind the leader after the bike ride, but it didn't take her long to claim the lead -- within just the first few miles of the run, she had not only gone out to the front, but she had put a 29-second gap between her and Marsh. Through mile seven, she was leading by more than three minutes and at the 8.75-mile mark, Williamson's advantage had grown to almost four minutes.
Kelly Williamson has been averaging almost exactly 6 minutes per mile through this hot run today. Impressive running - which has allowed her a huge gap and some time to enjoy the last mile. She has a big smile on her face as she nears the finish line.
