Andrews Disqualified from Men’s 1500m Semi-Final

American Robby Andrews has been disqualified from the men’s 1500m semi-final. Andrews had placed fifth in his qualifying heat for the final, the last automatic spot. However, Andrews’ characteristic style of racing from behind meant he had a lot of runners to weave through in the final meters and he took several steps on the inside of the rail to pass a slowing runner, a move which has apparently cost Andrews his race.

The Manalapan, NJ native looked poised for a strong placing in the final despite coming in ranked 27th in the World.

Andrews is the second runner of the games disqualified for running inside of the rail. In the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase final, Ezekial Kemboi who finished in the bronze medal position was disqualified after having a similar misstep.
