The US women’s relay of Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, English Gardner and Torie Bowie overcame the disadvantage of lane one to eviscerate the competition in the Women’s 4 x100m relays. The relay was really won by the US depth as Felix and Gardner built up a huge lead for the relay and Bowie was able to hold off the fast charging Jamaican super-star Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce. Fraser-Pryce would lead the Jamaican team to Silver with Great Britain rounding out the podium.
The American men were slowed by a series of mediocre hand-offs which left them with a lot of running to do in the final leg. Unfortunately, the rising star of Trayvon Brommell was no match for the likes of Usain Bolt. The Japanese relay team came through for a surprise silver thanks to a series of technically near-perfect hand-offs. If you weren’t watching, do yourself a favor and rewatch the Japanese men. They put on a clinic in relay hand-offs.
