Running with Twitter

When twitter first started a few years back one of the first things I started using it for was posting information about my runs. And, to a certain extent, a lot of my followers were runners. It wasn't too long till I found that this presented a bit of a problem. A lot of folks would tweet about nothing but running and a lot of the folks that followed me didn't really have any interest in my running tweets.

My solution was to start a second twitter account which I devoted exclusively to running: @klephrun This, I discovered, worked a heck of a lot better. I followed as many runners as I could and that provided me an ongoing commentary that, if nothing else, tended to motivated me when I wasn't really into it (guilt is feeling whiny about running in 40 degree weather when someone tweets they just finished their workout in a snowstorm).

The other handy thing I found about having a twitter account devoted to running was creating lists to organize people tweeting about specific subjects such as training, nutrition, injury and the growing number of companies touting their endurance exercise products with the service.

So I post this to make the suggestion to ye denizens of Stride Nation while also asking for your suggestions on twitter accounts we all might be interested in following. And, of course, let us know your twitter handle if you would like.

I've considered this for a while

Especially since I’ve got a multi-threaded following (CFB, NBA, running, science), and may actually set a new one up one of these days.
